A conference for the students, organized by the students!

Make your first BIG steps in science and take part in the 1^st IPK Student Conference!

This conference provides you with the exceptional opportunity to give a scientific talk like at an international conference, but in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will get a chance to discuss your ideas with fellow students and to get to know your colleagues from other departments. They all will be there and encourage you and vice versa. It's no problem if you are in the beginning of your Diploma or PhD and have no results yet. A description of your project can do miracles!
In addition our conference will be enriched by Prof. Dr. Frederick Meins (Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, Basel, CH) and Prof. Dr. Klaus Harter (Plant Physiology, University of Tübingen) who are invited to present their research as opening talks. You can learn from them and get the (rare?) chance to ask questions, discuss scientific topics with them and maybe to form contacts for the future.
Of course, any good conference is nothing without its social side! A hiking trip to the Harz mountains and a glorious closing party with food for the stomach and music for the soul will be organized.

We strongly encourage every Diploma and PhD student at the IPK to take part and have fun! What you need to do is just submit a short description of your presentation. We will prepare an abstract book in which your name will be written for ages to come!

There will be prizes for the best three talks given at the conference!!! A jury will decide. The prizes are provided by the companies Qiagen and VWR.


If you feel a little insecure preparing your talk or nervous about giving it then take the chance and attend the PhD seminar on May 18^th, 2005! As preparation for the conference Tim Sharbel will give a lecture on "The do's and don'ts about giving a good scientific presentation".
