announcement of student conferenceWed 19/1/05Dear fellow PhD-students, we would like to announce the IPK Student Conference 2005. For all of you who havent heard: there will be a conference in June (preliminary date is June 16th-18th, 2005) for all students (Diplom and PhD) at the IPK which is also organized by the students. The aim of the conference is to offer us the possibility to practice planning and organizing conferences, to give students the opportunity to exercise holding scientific talks in a relaxed atmosphere, to provide a chance to form contacts between students from different departments and of course for all of us to have FUN. The conference will be on three days starting on a Thursday. On two days we will have the talks with invited professors holding an opening talk (as a good example on how to hold a talk or even with the topic how to give good presentations), one day were planning a hiking trip to the Harz mountains and on the last day there will be a party with BBQ, beer, music, dancing and so on. Up to now there have been two meetings of students interested in organizing this conference. The next meeting is scheduled for February 2nd, 2005. Thats when an official organizing committee will be formed. So far there are 3 students from the department molecular genetics, 4 students from genebank and 4 students from the cytogenetics department willing to organize the conference. We are still looking for representatives from the two missing departments taxonomy and molecular cell biology and also bioinformatics students interested in being part of the organizing committee. From the next meeting on detailed decisions about the conference will be made like which professors to invite, how to arrange the conference days, the hiking trip, the party, abstract books and so on The meeting on February 2nd will be at 13:00 o'clock in the breakfast room of the cytogenetics department (genetics building, 2nd floor, directly above the entrance near the genome center). Everyone who wants to join the committee is welcome. Also with this email I would like to ask anyone to submit ideas for a logo design for the conference. There will be a prize for the logo which is chosen by the committee and which will then appear on the announcement posters and any official documents (maybe also t-shirts) of the conference. The deadline for submitting logos is February 8th, 2005. If possible the logos should be sent as image files to hanemann@ipk-gatersleben.de and include the title of the conference (IPK Student Conference) in the design. I would like to ask all of the PhD students receiving this email to pass it on to any Diplom students you know or other PhD students not on the mailing list. Please also inform us about email addresses of Diplom students and PhD students not on the mailing list, so that they will also receive any future emails concerning the student conference. The IPK gave us the opportunity to hold such a conference and now it is up to us what we make out of it! Were hoping for active involvement from all of you It should be a lot fun. Please feel free to contact me for any comments, questions or ideas. Kind regards, Anja, on behalf of the preliminary organizing committee top of page |
