Friday 24 th of June: hiking day - excursion to Brocken   top of page

On this day it is planned to make a hiking trip to the beautiful Harz mountains. Our starting point will be the town Schierke submontane to the Brocken - with 1142m altitude the highest peak in Germany north to the alps. The trip will lead us to the top plateau of the Brocken. There we plan to visit the "Brockengarten". This more than 100 years old botanical garden presents more than 1600 different species of plants common only in high mountains. A guided tour will give us insights into this very special field of botany. After recovering we will return back to Schierke by taking another route down.
If you are afraid that this would be too much for you (this will certainly not be the case!) there will still be the option to take the "Brocken Railway" up and/or down (on your own costs).
preliminary schedule:
8:00 Departure by bus to Schierke.
9:30 Arrival in Schierke.
12:30 Arrival on Brocken.
Lunch break (prepared lunch bags) plus guided tour through the "Brockengarten".
14:00 Return back to Schierke.
17:00 Depature by bus from Schierke back to Gatersleben.
18:30 Dinner in Gatersleben. Most likely we will order some Jumbo Pizzas.
